Retapamulin ointment has been found to be effective for the treatment of impetigo and secondarily infected wounds in a clinical trial with oral linezolid versus oral cephalexin. The study concluded that linezolid had a 63.9% success rate while retapamulin had a 90.6% success rate against streptococcus pyogenes, with staphylococcus aureus requiring most patients to require further treatment.
