Description
Deflazacort is an oxazoline derivative of prednisolone. It is a corticosteroid drug .It acts within the cells to prevent the formation or decrease the formation of certain substances or chemicals that cause inflammation and suppress immunity to stop self damage to body by immune system. By decreasing the release of these chemicals in a particular area, inflammation is reduced.
INDICATIONS
- Allergic reactions e.g. anaphylaxis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Juvenile chronic arhthritis
- Inflammatory skin disorders
- Inflammatory bowel disease such as ulcerative colitis
- Asthma
- Sarcoidosis
- Transplantation
- Nephritic syndrome

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Hypersensitivity to Deflazacort
Mild to moderate typhoid
PRECAUTIONS
Caution should be exercised when ZCORT is prescribed in patients with adrenal suppression, infections (chickenpox, measles).
Caution should be exercised when prescribing ZCORT to patients with high blood pressure, heart failure or recent heart attack.
Avoid long term use of ZCORT and abrupt withdrawal.
ADVERSE EFFECTS
Weight gain, GI disturbance, impaired healing, bone fractures, tiredness, irritability.
PREGNANCY & LACTATON
In pregnant women Deflazacort does not cross the placenta but for prolong use it may increase the risk of intra-uterine growth retardation.Corticosteroids are excreted in breast milk no data are available.
